- When it comes
to a website audit from an on-page SEO perspective, the first thing you need to
do you want to audit website URLs. Website URL audit now has two parts. You they
have number one which is finding dead pages. So it can include things like 404
find and find all the 301 redirects the site has.
- The second
part of website URL auditing is what we call optimization. Now it only applies
to new sites and sites that have no ranking on Google. So when it comes to
optimization, you want to check website URLs to make sure they have four main
things.
- These four
things include your biggest keyword in the URL. Number two, you want to make
sure you don't stuff your URL with keywords. I see so many people there literally
try to cram as many keywords into the URL as possible. Please don't do it. It
looks unnatural and will only hurt your site.
- Third, you
also want to avoid repeating words. And number four, shorter better. So don't
go out there and try to have the longest web URL, really trying to cram
keywords in there. The shorter and more concise the URL, the better will be for
Google to understand exactly what your website is about.
- Just to
clarify why the optimization only applies to new and unranked sites because if
you are optimizing an existing client's website that has page rank and google,
and you’ll notice they don't include the keyword in the URL, you really don't
want to continue and start changing the existing URL that the backlinks are
already pointing to.
- Like what means you potentially stand a chance
of losing all that SEO juice and power the existing URL has. Yes, you can 301
redirect the old URL to the new one, but it's not really worth messing with especially
if the site already ranks really high on Google.
- You are
much better off website optimization from another point of view, such as
on-page SEO. We have now discussed the theory of URLs.
- Let me head over to Screaming Frog and I'll
give it a try shows you exactly how it's done in real time. The website that I
will be is used right here. It's called greenathome.co.uk. Again, just to
clarify, I don't own this website.
- I have no
relation to it at all. I simply went to Google and carried was looking for a
landscaping company in London.
- I went to
page four on google as you can you see, and this is the website right here. The
reason I used the website on page four is because of course all sites on the
fourth page of google can handle it when it comes on SEO audit and general SEO
of their website.
